A walk to School past Thirlwall Castle

This is the view we have on our twenty minute walk to School. Aaah! the daily slog and the daily grind....unbearable isn't it?

  1. Isn't it absolutely staggering the amount of castles in the area? Last year my 12 year old was studying the Medieval period. "That's easy" I said, "We can go to loads of places while we're in England". It took us a while to find anything that was THAT NEW! We finally found a bit of Hexham Abbey that was built after 1100! It almost has the same effect on me that looking up at the stars has - just mind-boggling.

  2. Hi expatmum - At the last count I reckoned about 26 and I'm sure I've missed some.
BTW - I would like to know where you get your time from?..you seem to be a multitasker
extraordinaire. Whatever you are on - I would like some! (Pretty Please.)

  3. That's 26 little castles along the Wall anyway. I think I need to a recount. Stills seems too few...maybe most of them were pilfered to make new medieval "estates"?
