Cirencester - Corinium - Amphitheatre

We visited Cirencester on our way back from holiday last year and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I had never realised that it was the second biggest city after London in Roman times. We had a trip over to the amphitheatre (as you can see above). Some more photos of Cirencester and that structure are to be found here. They are well worth a look. A 360 degree view of the amphitheatre is here.

We loved the city - in fact everywhere! Beautiful place and the history of Cirencester is fascinating. We only had time to look round the Roman bit of Corinium Museum - we were glued to it. We must go again!

I'm dashing and not doing justice to the place. There is masses to see there and the mosaics are out of this world. Will write about it again.....

@carolemadge , my Twitter friend, who has stayed with us at the B&B, has been very wonderful and allowed me to link to her Corinium photos here and here . I'm indebted to her as I am having great difficulty uploading photos at the moment...and hers are much better. What a wonderful lass!

In the meantime: enjoy!

I went on a school trip there more years ago than I like to recall...our history mistress was a perfect guide.
Nice to be reminded of it.

Many thanks, Fly, for your comment. I was very impressed by Circencester and we must go back to explore it more. The museum, itself, is very splendid and there is plenty of history there. Not all of it is Roman but to get an idea of Roman life in Britain it is absolutely superb! :-)

BTW - Fly in previous posts I have added on an article I found about how the Swedish were able to resolve their banking mess in the early 1990s. Looks like they did a very good job...

And there you were just down the road from em in Chippenham - mind you, I'd probably have been in Wales. Ever been to Caerleon?

Oh! I'll take a look. Thank you!

Hi Mark - I've not been to Caerleon and would like to go some time. I've heard a lot about it. I'll give you a shout if we are in that area. :-)

Thanks, Fly, just sent you a quick e-mail. :-)

Please ignore my terrible typos as regards Cirencester...(usually including an extra 'c'...maybe I was thinking of a circus - ring - amphitheatre as I wrote the post. That's my defence anyway. Many thanks to @cyas on Twitter for pointing out the schoolgirl/boy error!!!) Hxx
