...And it's good night from her.....

......I've decided to take a blogging pause for a while....

I was very kindly awarded these awards by The Lehners in France (The gorgeous Brazilian/Portuguese one) and the Blog of Distinction from Ladybird World Mother.

It has made me reflect on why I write this blog in the first place...to be honest...I still don't know.

I do get a buzz out of writing but that has not changed since I was seven or eight when I was in a solo singing competition in Ryton.

The school entered us all and I was the only one, mortifyingly, to get stage fright. As a result I was the only one to come in, on time, at the second verse and get through right to the end (there were only two verses). I did get a good result (compared to all the rest who had sung the whole thing without any drama) but I still felt red raw with shame for days afterwards. I remember the awful feeling in the pit of my stomach to this very day. I wrote about it at school and I can also remember all the Junior School teachers crowding around, in the corridor, to read it. Perhaps the misery was worth it...just for the tangible, glorious effect of my writing....Standing there...right there in front of me.

Why did I start the blog? Too many reasons. Largely too personal to go into here. Nevertheless writing the blog has helped me enormously. I have made lots of blogging friends and you have all increased my confidence no end. To go from being a City worker in my pinstripes (with my own business cards et al) to a wrecked, sleep deprived, bejeaned older mum did much to damage my tenuous self confidence. At least I have climbed the steep, slippery slope of self esteem with the help of you all, friends and supporters.

I have found blogging both hard and easy. Hard in the sense that I find it hard to open up. Easy in the sense that the words, when I start, just flow out of me.

In fact, perhaps, it is becoming too easy. I am spending too much time at the computer screen...and not enough time here working which is what I should be doing. Mr H. and I share the same computer so I also feel pretty guilty blogging when we both should be using it for working. And now that our finances are in so rubbish a state I feel that I should be using it for better gain. Better commercial gain I hasten to add.

I shall pop back from time to time. When things get better, the same or possibly worse I shall let you know.

Thank you, TLiF, for this marvellous award. Hope the move back to YUK is going smoothly. Thank you, Ladybird World Mother, for your prestigious award to me. They both mean a great deal. Thank you, Troy, for my special badge, which as you can see I am wearing with pride over on the sidebar.

I know I should select certain bloggers for the awards. But hey! I think you are all good writers...all in different ways. That is not a cop-out...but that it is so true. When I started blogging I had certain ideas of how things should be written and composed (and about which subjects should be tackled..). This attitude, thankfully, has been turned on its head. Rightly so because I can be an opinionated whatsit. I like to be proved wrong.

So I would like you, all of my regular readers, to check whether you have both, one or none of these awards and if you have not...to claim them from here and to pass them on to other worthy bloggers if you so desire. Please award yourselves the special Hadriana cricket award in any event! (Created by own RSI'd fair hand.) Well done to you all!

I will be back to mess around with my blog from time to time so it will change. (Thank you too, Dumdad, for the design tips...I'll be back to redecorate in a while.)

I would like to put a special mention in for Grumpy Old Ken. If you look at his latest post...he has an excellent idea to put to all bloggers. Please give it your attention. I agree with him in that there is a lot of great writing out there that gets overlooked! Let's get it right back to the brilliant light of day!

Once I've helped Mr. H with the business(es) more and when my guilt subsides I will be back!

I still say that everyone over-thinks why they blog. It doesn't really matter - but if it's distracting you from other things, well then yes, you have to go off and see to them. Don't be away for too long, and perhaps I'll see you for a pint next summer at that place off the A1.

I can understand the need to get away, but I hope you are able to return someday.

I for one, will miss you but I do understand how blogging can take you away from other things.
Hoping that you will be able to boost the family business with your extra time and wishing you well with that.
Hoping that we shall hear from you before too long.

Only discovered you a short while ago Hadriana and I too will miss popping in from time to time. Will keep an eye out for your return. Wishing you well with all you do. A x

I think Expat Mum is absolutely right. Blogging is for fun and it doesn't matter whether you blog every day or once a month. And don't overthink! (My brain hurts, Brian).

I enjoy reading your blog and you're on my bloglist wotsit which alerts me to updated blogs so I'll be back when you are.

P.S. Thanks so much for the link about the Withnail cottage.

Oh H, I shall miss you, but understand completely why you feel you have to get out for a while. I find I am spending far too much time blogging - reading them or writing them and really ought to get a life. The cobwebs are beginning to appear around the house and I still keep finding tinsel that needs hoovering! Hope you will be back one day!

I am a newcomer to your blog also but have been enjoying it so far, however, I shall be here waiting when you decide to drop us another little gem. I loved the previous post by the way. :)

I shall look forward to the day you grab the computer and blog again. Good luck with your business.

PS: Word verification was "chins" - so keep your chin up Hadriana!!!

Totally understand this one... difficult to just have a quick blog because its all just too addictive to look just one more time at one more blog... but as soon as you do a spot of bloggin in the future, I shall know and will come and see you!
Take care Hadriana. XXXX

Oh, boo! And you a classicist as well! At least keep us up-to-date about the little mousy! That's too many exclamation marks, btw. Did you hear the one about the dyslexic agnostic blogger - up all night wondering if blog really did exist? No. Well, never mind. It wasn't very funny anyway. See you soon!

Hadriana, I know exactly what you mean. This blogging thing can take over quite a bit (I often find it intefering with my studies) but it is so much fun. Good on you for realising that it is not the right thing to be doing at this particular time.

I'll keep you on my sidebar and you can slide gracefully to the bottom until the day comes when you decide to do a post and then you will rise to the top, as I hope you do with all your current problems.

p.s. I love the cricket-themed award you've designed so I'm taking it with pleasure.

I shall miss reading your blog, but fully understand why you need to take a break - it can take over your life if you are not careful. I am going to ration my blogging as I have been spending far too much time at the computer.

I shall look forward to hearing how things are when you decide you are ready to come back.

Oh that's such a shame, I love reading your musings. All the best..and look forward to your occasional returns.

At the going down of the sun, and in the mornings, we will remember you. Pleased to have made your cyber-acquaintance and still want that cream tea.

Wow what can I say. Hope and trust you will be back. I find getting the balance of this blogging lark difficult. There is a life outside blogging at the same time it can be fun in moderation. Will miss you.

Well done on the awards, well deserved. There's nothing wrong with your blog, it's a fabulous blog and I love coming over here.

Do take care.

Sage, what a wonderful offer, thank you so much.

EJ...no..I won't vanish...and I will stay in touch.

LBB..I've thought about your comment all day and thought..no, she can't really mean that...that I've inspired her! But if it is true...then thank you so much for that comment. It warms the cockles of my heart. Or at least the nerve endings...not sure my heart has cockles. ;)

NVG, I think you've put your finger on it...I need to go and recharge my batteries....

CJ, No I agree with you...I don't think there is anything wrong with it ;) and thank you for saying it is fabulous. The thing is...I'm taking a break because I do have loads to do and not enough time in which to do it. I also never do anything by halves...

I need to reimmerse myself in other stuff. I do need to do so pretty soon i.e. now, therefore, I am giving myself a good old kick in the pants to go and do it. (And less of the procrastination...) So yes, I will be back....

Hope you have time for that cup of coffee when I am over your way. I am over for nearly two weeks in March. If you fancy, send me an email.
Understand completely about you wanting to focus. I feel like that about my weight- it is the time to deal with it,and no more pro-crastination!!
You are a great blogger and will be missed- but we know you will be back.

Hadriana's Treasures said...

Lakeland Jo...yes I'd love to meet up for a cup of coffee - I'll send you an email. Know what you mean about weight. I've fallen off the diet wagon as have just consumed to slices of toast with jam with a cup of coffee. But hey, it is still the grey and lifeless month, that is January.

I have various plans for exercise... about 4 in my head as I write this. The most extreme is entering myself for the Great North Run i.e. jogging from here up to the top of the hill and back!

Hadriana's Treasures said...

two slices of toast...which, if I were an angel, should be healthy porridge...

if you stumble on the answer, Lakeland Jo, let me know :)

Catharine Withenay said...

Enjoy your break, but make sure you come back. You have been an inspiration to me - and clearly to many others - and I wish you all the best with the business, family and all other plans.

See you soon!

Hadriana's Treasures said...

Dear Catharine... that's a super comment. The reason I need to get away for a while is that I have two websites to sort out...one for the B&B (to design, write and get up) and to revise/edit the one for the scuba diving company as it is massively out of date.

It may also be that we get this hous up and running as a B&B again. I reckon we will do that...we just need to earn some money pronto and I'll go with the children back to our other little house in the next town. It won't be easy but too bad. Life is a series of challenges I tend to think and I just want to bash on with them.

We haven't given up on our plans for the extension but we need to think laterally, vertically and horizontally whilst the banks are not lending. I'm sure we'll manage it and I'll keep posting things about as and when I can.

I wish you well with all your plans - making that move to Manchester AND writing/publishing your book so you must be extremely busy too. Sounds very interesting! Will be over to yours very soon.

Hi Saz FFF and Arthur: thank you for your lovely comments. Yep...FIL is now in a convalescent home so they are keeping an eye on him. Checking to see whether he can make a cuppa for himself and all that baloney. So we shall see.

The kids are fine and dandy thank you for asking!

Hope you are doing well Saz too - I'll be over in just a tick. It's snowing here today...maybe you are snowed in too?

Arthur...blogging every month.....
Might just be my answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.

"To this end they built an incredibly powerful computer, Deep Thought. After the great computer programme had run (a very quick seven and a half million years) the answer was announced.

The Ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is...

which makes me laugh as I turn 21 again quite literally in a few days time. (Don't think I like it either...)

Oh Hadriana, have just discovered that you are jumping ship for a while. This, however, I quite understand. I'm sure you've noticed that I am not the most regular of bloggers, to say the least, despite wanting to be. Time, time, time - always my enemy. I completely understand that you need to go and do more 'cost effective' things, specially in these difficult times. For me, I am always balancing the need to maintain a stable household and happy, properly looked after children with my own personal desires to write stuff, do photos and get things off my chest. It is such a difficult balance - and I err on the side of caution, looking to my 'job' more than to myself. This is not the 'victim' statement it may sound as I do not like the feelings I get when I have neglected the chilren and the household - even if I squeeze in a few minutes at the computer when they are in the bath. It makes me feel such a crap mother. My priorities are keeping them 'on track' - with their homework, with their sleep, with their general sense of well-being. If they're happy, if my husband's happy, then I'm happy. Call me old-fashioned if you will. I think, too, it has a connection with being 'trapped inside my head' during my darker days - thankfully behind me now. Actually, I feel a blog coming on...this post is as long as one, after all!

Anyway, I'll stop maundering on and just say 'Good luck, friend' and hope that we see you back here in the not too distant future. I hate it when people have to go.

xx

PS: I'm with you on the typos! (re your comment on GOK's blog). I hate it if I post a comment then spot the typo. But then, I am a linguistic pedant - and that's a whole other story..! x

Hadriana - I'm still crying on my computer as I had 11,19,21,29. I always tell everyone to buy raffle tickets either side of ours and they are assured a win. Was explaining this to DD at the pantomime recently. We had ticket 232 and the winning ticket was 231. Bummers! Take care and don't stay away too long, plers (that's my word verification - sounds a bit like please. Must be a sign!)
